The Fraunhofer Institute is researching the entire hydrogen chain at several locations – from production to application in transportation and industry.

We are also making an important contribution to the further development of hydrogen technology!

This is because our compressor system at the H2 plant in Görlitz is used for research into tube storage systems and plays a key role: it compresses hydrogen from an inlet pressure of between 16 and 30 bar to up to 250 bar and stores it in special tube storage systems.

These storage units have specific material changes at certain points, e.g. notches.

The aim? The stress and the resulting material fatigue will be investigated by specifically pushing up and relaxing the accumulators in order to make future accumulators safer and more efficient.

Hydrogen is an important element when it comes to the energy supply of the future. As a powerful energy carrier and due to its versatility, hydrogen is proving to be an important trailblazer on the road to low-carbon and carbon-free energy.
